Our surgeons perform approximately 14,000 cases per year in the specialties of Orthopedics, Neurology, Urology, Cardiovascular, General, Gynecology and Otolaryngology. The Surgery Department consists of 12 surgical suites and four outpatient suites with many procedures performed by endoscopic and laparoscopic methods.
Once again, St. Bernards raised the bar in quality healthcare when the AFMC awarded us the prestigious Innovator in Quality Award for 2003. The award was based on the innovative and effective processes St. Bernards developed to reduce infections while participating in the AFMC's project for the Prevention of Surgical Infections. Our quality team has been asked to share these processes with healthcare organizations around the state.
In keeping with St. Bernards' overall commitment to offer the most innovative procedures, our surgeons continue to employ the latest technology in the operating room-implementing tools like the Stryker Navigation System. This computer-assisted navigation system improves a surgeon's accuracy in intricate surgeries by creating three-dimensional computer images of patient anatomy, showing detailed images on a computer screen right in the operating room.
