Purpose
- The Hospice Program consists of professionals and volunteers administering special services to terminally ill patients and their families.
- Services are available to persons in Craighead, Lawrence, Poinsett, Greene, Randolph, Mississippi and Jackson Counties.
Goal
- To promote patient comfort by minimizing pain and other distressing symptoms and to provide support.
Team Approach
- Utilizes a team approach in providing services in the home. The team is composed of:
- Family
- Medical director
- Attending physician
- Registered nurse
- Volunteer coordinator
- Social worker
- Pastoral care
- A registered nurse coordinates the medical services under the direction and supervision of the attending physician.

- Dietary counseling
- Rehabilitative services
- Bereavement assistance
- Medications for pain and symptom control
Volunteer Staff
- Assists the team in providing comfort care by providing a wide range of supportive services for patients and their families.
- Visits/phone calls
- Transportation
- Staying with patient
- Listening and caring
- Limited homemaking chores and babysitting
Families
- Hospice offers families the opportunity to be actively involved in caring for their loved ones.
- The patient and family are in control of their care and environment while living their last days to the fullest in the comfort and security of home.
Funding
- Hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, Champus, most private insurance and private pay.
- Donations and memorial contributions help fund hospice services.
