St. Bernards Will Offer Safe Sitter Classes

St Bernards has scheduled Safe Sitter classes for the summer of 2011.

Designed for 11- to 12-year-olds, the classes will teach boys and girls the basics of caring for young children. The medically accurate program will cover how to handle emergencies, including what to do if a child chokes, how to call for help and how to be sure the sitters themselves are safe.

Participants will receive information on child development and age-appropriate activities. They also will learn a variety of helpful tips to make the more confident caregivers, along with some elementary business skills.

In addition, participants will practice safety skills – like what to do when a child chokes – and will show they have mastered key concepts and have skills necessary to handle any emergency.

Classes are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 15, June 29 and July 13. The $25 per child fee will cover lunch as well as program materials. All classes will be held in the education conference room at the St. Bernards Outpatient Imaging Center at 1144 East Matthews Ave.

Registration is required and can be accomplished by calling the St. Bernards Education Department at 336-4909.
