This year’s HMG Health & Fitness Expo will be a great
place to find tips for cooking healthy.
There will be lots of cooking going on in the Expo’s Healthy
Cooking Kitchen, a facility assembled especially for Expo by Gilmore’s Custom
Kitchens. A half dozen different demonstrations will be held over the weekend,
with the featured cooks focusing on foods that are good for us … have wide
appeal … are kid friendly … are easy to prepare … are in line with “better
choices” … and provide the energy our bodies need without excess calories.
Guest cooks will share great ideas for ways we can pay
better attention to our diets and things we can do to build better food habit as
we work toward better health. You’ll leave with some good ideas … and some
recipes in hand to try for your family.
A total of six demonstrations will be held over the two days
– four on Saturday and two on Sunday. They include:
Saturday
9:45 a.m. – Lisa Tedder, author of a blog called “The
Cardiologist’s Wife” on www.jonesboro.com
(assisted by her husband, Jonesboro cardiologist Dr. Barry Tedder)
11:15 – Sai Kattaviravong, owner of Sai Thai Cuisine, 211 South
Main Street (assisted by First District Congressman Rick Crawford)
12: 15 p.m. – Randy Page, chef with Sodexo (assisted by Lorie
Bryant)
1:30 p.m. – Steve Miller, chef with U.S. Foods (assisted by
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin)
2:45 p.m. – Personnel from the St. Bernards Center for Weight Loss
(assisted by three visiting National Football League players)
Sunday
2 p.m. – Melinda Smith,
magnet school coordinator and gifted and talented instructor, along with
some students from the Health, Wellness & Environmental Studies School
(assisted by Arkansas State University Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn and his
wife, Kristi)
3:30 p.m. – Kathy Cardwell, owner of Loretta’s Catering To Your
Needs, 2013 Grant Avenue (assisted by KAIT weatherman Ryan Vaughan)
