While area women are training for this year’s Race for the
Cure in Little Rock on Oct. 20, men who support the girls have an opportunity
all their own to join in the fight against breast cancer.
Local chamber businesses are getting together to sponsor
Guys for the Girls, a “guys only” 5K walk/run planned for Saturday, Aug. 25.
This event reverses the typical roles of the guys and the girls who support the
Arkansas Race for the Cure.
When things get underway at 7:30 in the morning on Aug. 25,
it will be the men on the course. The women who support them will show up
decked out in outrageous pink attire, lining the streets and manning
intersections and water stations, cheering on the guys.
Men can get chips and take part as timed runners, or they
can be non-timed participants in the Ridge Runners run/walk event.
This event originated in 2011 as a community7 project of
Team C, Leadership Jonesboro. Because of its overwhelming success last year,
team members have decided to make it an annual event. Last year’s race had nearly 250 participants
and raised $7,500 for Arkansas Komen for the Cure.
Registration is $31 for timed participants and $26 for
non-timed guys who sign up through Aug. 19. After that date, registration will
be $36 and $31, respectively. Registration for participants under 12 years of
age is $20. Men registered by Aug. 19
will be guaranteed T-shirts. Participants can register online at racesonline.com.
Corporate sponsors include St. Bernards, Craighead Electric
Cooperative, Nabholz Construction, Engines Inc, Ritter Communications, Sartin
Services Lawncare and Nursery.
