Kids on the Mile Student Art Winners Named

Six youngsters from Northeast Arkansas have received $50 gift cards from Barnes & Nobel as first-place winners in an art contest held in conjunction with this year’s Kids on the Mile event hosted by the Women’s Advisory Council of the St. Bernards Development Foundation.

Second- and third-place winners received ribbons.

Winners, the titles of their entries and schools submitting the art are listed below by grade level.

Kindergarten –Jiawei Ge,“Riding Rockets in the Snow,”  Jonesboro School of Art, first place; Deni Pamela Seteto, “Chief,” Hispanic Community Services, second; and Lycei Pan, “Playing Ball with Grandpa,” Jonesboro School of Art, third.

First Grade – Makenzie Massey, “Jump Rope Girl,” Jonesboro School of Art, first; Sara Beth Stracener, “Bike Riding with My Family,” Jonesboro School of Art, second; and Will Wright, “The ASU Red Wolves Rock,” Charlott Jones School of Art, third.

Second Grade – Jesus Pedraza, “Color Flames,” Hispanic Community Services, first; Beau Smith, “Silly Upside Down Face,” Foundation of Arts, second; and Deisy Morales, “Flores de Deisy,” Hispanic Community Services, third.

First-place winners received their gift cards at a special presentation ceremony at the Kids on the Mile event held Aug. 18. Formerly called Kidz Fun Fair, Kids on the Mile is a free back-to-school program designed to help children in Grades K-5 learn about health and fitness in a fun atmosphere. This year youngsters “earned” basic school supplies for completing different activities and at the same time learned about the importance of healthy eating, playing and learning.

Kids on the Mile is hosted annually by the Women’s Advisory Council of the St. Bernards Development Foundation.
