St. Bernards Eating Disorders Clinic Will Present "Healthy Ideal" Program Dec. 14

The St. Bernards Eating Disorders Clinic will host a special program on eating disorders on Friday, Dec. 14.

The program, called “The Healthy Ideal,” will have two components – free screenings with information about weight loss options and an hour-long luncheon program at noon at St. Bernards Health & Wellness.

Reservations must be made by Wednesday, Dec. 12, for the lunch program because there will be limited seating. A light heart healthy diabetic friendly lunch will be served. Persons interested in attending can call 207-4912 or email amcmillon@sbrmc.org.

Dr. Cristina Shaw, St. Bernards psychologist who specializes in treating people who have eating disorders, will serve as presenter. She will discuss the relationship between dieting, our culture’s unhealthy focus on the “thin ideal” and how to break out of the dieting cycle to create lifelong eating practices that promote health and wellness. She will specifically talk about the relationship between emotion eating and mindless eating and will review techniques that promote mindful eating practices.

Free screenings will be available from 7 to 10 a.m. at Health and Wellness. They include height, weight, body mass index, anemia, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and anemia. Take-home colon cancer screening kits will be available as will other educational materials. Participants are reminded that data from screenings are more accurate when patients have been fasting.

The St. Bernards Eating Disorders Clinic is located at the St. Bernards Counseling Center at 615 East Matthews Ave. and can be reached by calling 870-930-9090.
